Valuer - Buildings & Civils

The primary function of the role is to assess the current replacement cost of buildings, civils (and related building services) for insurance purposes but valuers also occasionally get involved in decommissioning studies and financial valuation work. The valuers get exposed to a wide range of industries and structure types across numerous countries. Valuers are expected to build understanding and rapport with our clients to ensure continuous business and to strengthen John Foord’s reputation as an industry leader.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities of Role  (a) Client Engagement & Management • Build and establish relationships with clients to build trust and confidence • Attend networking and industry events • Keep updated on trends in the insurance and construction sectors   (b) Valuations • Visit sites to survey and ensure all necessary details of the assets are considered • Undertake research and liaise with researchers and the valuation team to prepare cost assessments • Ensure cost information is logged into the appropriate John Foord databases • Communicate with the Operations team on current job status and schedule  • Prepare valuation reports and appendices to be submitted to the client  • Action any queries or feedback from the client before providing the final valuation report • Support the John Foord valuation team when required including but not limited to proof reading reports, providing opinion on survey timings for proposals, etc.  (c) Standards • Keep updated on valuation and quantity surveying industry standards • Identify and communicate any risks to quality of reports for clients • Follow best practice in compliance with John Foord templates, guidelines and policies •         Contribute to the continuous development and quality improvement of John Foord reports, systems, policies and controls. 

Desired Qualifications,Experience & Skills

Demonstrate strong project management skills, including scheduling, milestone tracking verification, project reporting

Capable of working independently with little supervision but also a good team player

Able to meet tight client deadlines

Able to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of business

Previous experience using Microsoft Office suite

Openness to new ideas and seeking to learn continually

Strong attention to detail

Be, or have ability to work towards becoming, a member of NZIQS, RICS, ASA, API or other similar association

Tertiary qualifications in surveying, engineering or related field

Eligible and willing to travel frequently, as and when required
