Job Description

The job entails the delivery of professional project management services to clients, the majority of which are school Boards of Trustees. Projects will range from minor replacement of elements (roof, carpet, heater replacement etc) through to construction of new buildings or significant alteration and modernisation of existing structures. The role will also include condition assessment work and the preparation of long term maintenance plans.

The successful candidate will be self-motivating, honest and hard working. Some independent travel will be required for meeting with clients, stakeholders or on site personnel/management. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Directing and managing projects developed from conception to completion, defining project scope, goals and deliverables in close collaboration with the client, effectively communicating project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion, liaison with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis, estimating the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals, drafting and submitting budget proposals and recommending any subsequent budget changes where necessary. Setting and continually managing project expectations with team members and other stakeholders, delegation of tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel within design teams, identification and resolution of issues and conflicts within the project team, identification and management of project dependencies and critical path. Planning and scheduling project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools to track project milestones and deliverables. Developing and delivery of progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations, sending regular communication updates, coordination of all design and pre-contract meetings, proactively managing changes in project scope, identification of potential crises and devise contingency plans. Build, develop and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project

 

 

 The successful candidate shall be/have:  A good understanding of NZ construction industry,  Quantity Surveying or Building Surveying background backed up with professional or institute qualification/s,  High standards around personal dress, punctuality, spelling, grammar and overall communication,  Expertise in all Microsoft programmes especially Word and Excel,  Ability to work independently, be an effective member of the APM team and manage a reasonable consistent number of projects simultaneously,  Experience in cost control, financial management of building projects and regular account expenditure reporting to client,  Effective communication skills to help with coordination of consultants, contractors, school principals, Board of Trustee members and key staff at the Ministry of Education,  Knowledge of long term property planning, condition surveys and assessments,  Willingness to work additional hours during the week as workload dictates,  Strong interpersonal skills,  Able to learn, understand and apply new processes and keep up with technological changes.   The successful candidate will possess the following skills:   Excellent leadership and interpersonal people management skills,  Good problem solver,  Numerical skills to control and manage large budgets,  Methodical and logical approach,  Analytical to recognise potential cost savings,  Confident and persuasive negotiator,  Excellent communicator, capable of leading and controlling meetings,  Experience in the financial sector and specific projects being worked on,  Strong team player,  Understanding of people resources, what they do and how to get the best out of them  Flexible and capable of working to deadlines
